This On the Fly interview begins with author Christian Schoon reading from his work. The interview was recorded in April 2014 when Schoon, who resides in Shueyville, Iowa, visited Prairie Lights to read from Under Nameless Stars, the sequel to his young adult science fiction novel Zenn Scarlet.

Schoon discusses the origins of his unusual heroine, the influence of Douglas Adams’ writing on his own work, and his interest in the steampunk genre. He speaks of himself as a “craftsman” with a focus on the “nuts and bolts” of writing. As the interview comes to a close, he argues, “Human beings are hardwired to tell stories.”
